Our potato growing ⓈⒺⒸⓇⒺⓉ
Early spring gardening has begun with potatoes.
Today in our home potatoes are a staple item. Since they can be prepared in so many different ways, we never get tired of them.
Dishes like garlic mashed potatoes, baked, loaded, fried potatoes with garlic, spices with any one of our dried herb blend and so much more. I could go on and on.
Let’s get to the growing part.
In order to grow a potato you will need to “seed the potato” like you see here in the photo. Now the term is misleading because you don’t really get seeds from the potatoes instead you get “sprouted eyes” that sprout piece of the potato is cut off as a piece to plant and grow multiple potatoes.
The great thing is that when you seed aka get sprouted eyes on potatoes you then can use them to harvest and keep making more potatoes year after year for your homestead.
To begin the “seeding process” we’ve hung potatoes by rope to help them mature into sprouted eyes.
We’ll continue this series as they mature and get ready for soil with Dr. Purple Leaf.
